The sum of a team's (or a player's on-ice) shooting percentage and save percentage, usually at five-on-five. Because league-wide shooting and save percentages must add up to 100%, PDO is centred on 100 (or 1000), and values far from it tend to regress — it is used as a rough indicator of luck in short samples. The name is the online handle of its creator, Brian King; it is not an abbreviation.
PDO
Also written: PDO
Standard statistic · NHL
Formula
PDO = on-ice shooting % + on-ice save % (often at five-on-five; average = 100, sometimes written 1000)
On StatVault
StatVault does not compute PDO. The NHL corpus holds season totals per player, not the on-ice shots for and against that PDO needs.
