Short answers, each with the page that has the detail.

How do I find a player?

Press / or ⌘K anywhere, or use the search page. Names are forgiving — accents, nicknames and small typos still match — and two players with the same name are listed separately.

Open search →
Which sports and years are covered?

NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and MLS. Coverage years differ by sport and by stat; some early stats were never recorded, and those show as missing rather than zero.

Coverage by sport →
Where do the numbers come from?

Named sources, listed with what each covers. Where a record depends on a few plays, the league's official season line wins over a play-by-play sum.

A stat looks wrong. What do I do?

Report it from the page it is on. Every correction we make is published with the before, the after and the source.

Corrections ledger →
What is VAL?

A single value scale for every player-season, so careers can be compared across eras and sports. The glossary explains it and every other metric we use.

What are KC and KV?

The Knox ratings: Knox Current (who a player is right now) and Knox Value (what a career has built).

How does Beat the Vault work?

Each week, call which way a player's rating moves and how sure you are. Picks settle on Monday and are scored for accuracy and calibration.

Weekly Vault →
Can I use the data in my app or site?

Yes — a JSON API, an embeddable widget and an MCP server for AI agents. An API key is optional and raises your limits.

Developer docs →
How do I cite a page?

Player and board pages carry a cite bar with a ready-made citation and a link to the page's JSON.
