Counterfactual · aging curve projection
What If They Played Longer?
Elite players who retired significantly earlier than the position average, projected to median longevity using StatVault's empirical snap-aging curves. Each projection shows counterfactual additional KV-H production — the most data-driven version of the greatest What-Ifs in NFL history.

Honesty Note
Pre-1999 players (e.g. Barry Sanders, Jim Brown) are absent — nflverse career data begins 1999; Wikipedia ingest provides career totals but not season-level KV-H trajectories required for aging projection. Coverage for the most famous early-retirees awaits enhanced pre-1999 season data. Projections assume median position longevity and scale output via snap-aging per-snap rate curves — a directional estimate, not a precise forecast.
Methodology
Candidates: elite players (KV-H peak ≥ 75, top tier) who retired ≥ 2 seasons short of the position median career length, and whose last season is before 2024 (not still active). Projection: last season's KV-H scaled by the aging curve ratio at each projected age, summed to median retirement age. Data: StatVault Historical Knox (KV-H) + snap-aging empirical curves (2012–2024).
