Signal Divergence

Data vs. Voters

Two independent signals measure player value: the numbers (KV-H era-adjusted position rank) and the voters (Pro Bowls, All-Pros, Hall of Fame). When they agree, the case is settled. When they diverge sharply, something interesting is happening.

7,168 players with both signals · 20-point minimum divergence threshold

The Overlooked — Data Says More

Players the numbers rate much higher than their accolade totals suggest. The data found something the voters didn't.

Methodology

Data signal:KV-H position percentile — career era-adjusted quality rank within the player's position group (e.g., top 5% of all running backs). Voter signal: accolade score (Pro Bowls ×1, All-Pros ×2, HOF ×6), normalized to a percentile within the same position group. Divergence = data percentile − voter percentile. Positive = data rates them higher. Negative = voters rate them higher.

Position groups with fewer than 5 eligible players are excluded. Neither signal is 'right' — this surface reveals the gap, not a verdict.
