Compilers vs Comets

Is a career better measured by its peak or its total? Peak-share answers it: what fraction of a player's career production landed in their best 3 seasons. A Comet burned bright and brief; a Compilerground it out for a decade. Neither is better — they're different shapes of greatness.

Methodology.Peak-share = (sum of a player's best 3 single-season production) ÷ (career production), using a position-appropriate yardage proxy: QB = passing yards, RB/FB = scrimmage (rush + receiving) yards, WR/TE = receiving yards. Defensive value isn't a single counting stat, so defenders are out of scope. By design, peak-share trends down with career length — longevity is the essence of compiling, so the compiler board skews toward the longest careers (often QBs). Eligibility requires ≥6seasons so "best 3" is a real subset. Coverage is gated to careers entirely within 1999+, because truncated split-era totals would distort the share.
