Historical Knox Rankings
KV-H (Knox Value Historical) — a career-quality score for every NFL player in the encyclopedia, computed from era-relative z-scores. A player is measured against their own era’s peers, not all-time averages, so seasons from the 1980s and the 2020s are directly comparable.
Algorithm
- KC-H (season) — primary stat per game, z-scored against all starters at same position in a ±2 year window → normalized 0–100. Blended with era-aware availability (20%). Confidence-weighted by games played (seasons < 8 games score proportionally lower).
- KV-H (career) — usage-weighted career KC-H average (60%) + best three high-confidence seasons (40%) + longevity factor (ramps to 1× over 5 seasons — prevents 1-season wonders from topping the list).
Coverage note: gamesPlayed data is richest for the nflverse era (1999+). Pre-1999 seasons without gamesPlayed are excluded (honest gap, not zero). Legends with pre-1999 peak careers (Rice, Elway, Sanders) will appear lower than their true historical rank. Built Jul 14, 2026. 7,168 players scored.
Top 500 of 7,168 qualified players (≥ 2 scored seasons). Qualified players: positions with a clear production stat (QB, RB, WR, TE, EDGE/DE/DT, LB, CB/S).
